From November 20, 1984 to April 10, 1985, China sent its first scientific expedition team to the Antarctic Ocean and Antarctica to conduct scientific research and set up a research station. The photo shows Guo Kun (left), the first chief of China’s Great Wall Station in Antarctica, and Xia Xumei (right), a member of the Beihai Fleet and an amateur sculptor, laying a stone inscription for the station.
